HOW TO TEACH YOUR KIDS ABOUT ORGANIZATION

Kids are super cute but they are usually mischievous mess-makers. So the earlier you start teaching them the value of organization, the more it will help them to succeed not only at school but everywhere else too.

babbleStart with every day habits or routine like packing lunch box or school bag, getting dressed or even brushing teeth before going to bed. This will encourage them to remember and learn to do the essential things regularly.

Designate a definite place and time of study. It should be a quiet place with least distractions. Encourage him or her to decide which assignments are priority. Sit with them to review the homework, things needed for school the next day or any special project work. You can install a pegboard near the study table to help organize papers, notes, art work, craft supplies etc. neatly.

3Use folders and files to sort and organize notes, assignments, completed work or work to do, separately. Make sure your child tries to do it himself gradually. Color code or label folders for ease if required.

While choosing a school bag or locker or closet organizer to store all school supplies, make sure it has enough compartments to arrange different things easily. This is where toddlers start figuring out what fits in where and why they should separately stack things like books, notes, stationery, lunchbox etc.

Pack-a-lock

Use our incredibly cute toy organizers, storage sacks and multipurpose laundry bags to control playroom mess. Use labels for bins if that makes finding stuff easier. Like for instance “Everyday toys”, “Favorite Toys”, “Old Toys”. Keep the bins for old toys or clothes higher up on the shelf and the more frequently used ones on the lower shelves so that kids are able to reach them easily. Teach them to donate toys he no longer plays with…he will learn to care for others 🙂

Get a funky, vibrant calendar for your little one’s room. Let them inculcate the habit of jotting down reminders like- things to do, household chores to help with or maybe something they need for school, exam dates, assignment submission dates and so on. Or encourage them to create check lists.

When you go shopping, involve your kids while planning what things to get, which route to take. Even when you are planning a vacation, let them decide what clothes, games or essential items they want to take along.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CLOTHES?

It’s simple to make your lovely clothes last in a good condition for a long time if you take just a bit of care! Here are some small and easy ways to guide you…

After undressing, if you want to wear the same outfit again soon, then definitely put them on hangers! They won’t crumple and the fabric will be protected and look good. Put the rest in a hamper to be washed.

Avoid getting food stains on your clothes. You will just need to eat a bit carefully and still if you get some, dab ice water or seltzer on them so the stain does not set. Never rub!!

food network

Wash clothes often using a gentle cycle for delicates. Never use liquid bleach in the wash and always separate colored items from whites. It’s best to avoid chemical bleaches, instead use pure soap with bicarbonate (baking soda).

Drying clothes in sunlight or open air is much healthier than using a dryer. The latter besides using up a huge amount of electricity, will also wear out your outfits or fade colors quickly. You can use a clothes rack indoors if it’s not sunny. Always iron clothes when they are slightly damp and if you have to use a dryer, the temperature should never be too high. It will tend to wrinkle your clothes!

After drying clothes, hang them up neatly so that there are minimum wrinkles. Smooth out the fabric with your hands. You can use our light but robust clothes storage boxes to arrange all items neatly and keep the dust and insects away. Though washing clothes is good for enhancing their long life, don’t overdo it! Often, simple airing can work wonders for the oil, dust or perspiration that accumulates over time.

Sometimes, denim can develop creases during a wash which are hard to get rid of! In that case before ironing, just grab it by the waistband, raise your arms and give it a good flick. Repeat if required. Also folding clothes along their seams keeps them in good shape and utilizes space efficiently.

Finally instead of buying expensive padded hangers for heavy or fragile items, use layers of tissue paper, old socks or hand towels to get the same result!

CREATIVE IDEAS FOR A SMALL NURSERY

The adventure of parenthood is perhaps the most exhilarating experience ever! The planning for the baby’s room, splurging on all those cute little clothes and toys, deciding the name of your angel, your hopes and dreams and that seemingly endless wait till the baby arrives…

So why let the size of the nursery dishearten you when the space in your heart is big enough? Living in metropolitan cities very often deprives us of adequate space for everything. But here we bring you some great décor and organization ideas for small nurseries…

Use the vertical space as much as possible to save on floor area. This way there will be fewer things to bump into when you move about! Simple open shelves, hooks and rods can support most of the stuff as you can see above. The top of a traditional dresser can easily become a changing station. Don’t miss the dark blue walls in the second nursery. Though dark colors are usually perceived to make small rooms appear smaller, we beg to differ…it can provide an illusion of depth and an interesting background for light colored furniture.

If you are still confused about the décor, going for light colored walls and furnishing is a safe bet…the room will appear bright and airy too. Still, we suggest, listen to your heart and do what is best for your little one…you can never go wrong 🙂

HOW TO DE-CLUTTER YOUR BEDROOM…

Your bedroom is a place where you relax, unwind, and let your hair down. So it goes without saying that a clean and tidy room will always look more inviting than a shabby one, when you come home exhausted after a tiring day! This is exactly the reason why it’s crucial to control chaos in the bedroom and get organized…here are some great tips:

The traditional closet is always the first resort for most of us. A bit of clever designing can create adequate space…racks for hanging clothes, place for keeping folded items, closed cabinets, drawers for more delicate things, open shelves to hold bins which can house all the little odds and ends…

Image

A very ingenious way to create more space to contain clutter is having a headboard which is also a wall unit! This trick uses more of the vertical space and does not encroach on the precious floor area. You can store anything you want here or even display some artifacts. Use pretty storage boxes if you don’t want everyone to walk in on your stuff 🙂

Under the bed storage is another great idea to utilize limited legroom.  If your bed comes with drawers, great! If not, don’t worry…using some sober, coordinated bins can rise to the occasion very well. Use lidded ones to keep dust at bay and this way, you can store all your bedspreads, woolens or summer clothes without stuffing your wardrobe.

 eyer

The simple bedside table has potential too…if it’s like a simple shelf or cubby, you can place the night lamp on the top and line up some bins underneath, just like a multifunctional piece of furniture!

dfgf

The same goes for a window seat or bench with some space below. Just a couple of matching chic bins or baskets will hide mess and be visually pleasing at the same time…
